Sick dogs and vet bills

Well, the dog didn't get any better.  If anything, he got worse.  He puked and, well, crapped, the whole time Kevin had him out this morning.  That was enough.  He took Hawkeye to the vet this afternoon.  He has an intestinal infection.  Great, this dog just got a lot more expensive.  The vet bill, shots, and take-home meds totalled $106.  O.U.C.H.

I hope this works.  Now we're feeding him rice.  Yes, I said rice.  The vet has me cooking for a dog.  I don't cook for my kids!  OK, yeah I do, but sheesh!  I hope this fixes him.  If it doesn't, when do you cut your losses?  He really is a cool dog.  At least this might explain his "accidents."

Here's the deal, hon....dogs get worms and parasites and all kinds of other ailments when coming from a questionable background.  It's an adjustment.  The vet bills won't be that high every time.  OKAY?!  He found a loving home and he'll become a great family member in time.  Time.  Wait it out and enjoy the pleasures of having a canine companion.  But if you change your mind about Bruce, don't be thinking I'll take him in!!  LOL.  I have my hands full here with all my pets and a new live-in boyfriend.

Yes, I've cooked rice and boiled chicken for sick dogs many times.  Maybe he has a protozoa.  The symptoms are like you described.  I've nursed dogs throught giardia (a protozoa), corona, parvo KF-11 (when it first developed and before there was a vaccine for it) and many other illnesses.  We dog people have a saying, "We've not only seen it all but cleaned it off of the floor as well".
Hope your dog is feeling better soon.

I was afraid it was Pravo. He will get better. Rice is easy on the stomach. He can digest it easily. Make it with chicken broth for better flavor and nurishment. LOL That was what I had for lunch today!

I so hope that the dog gets to feeling better soon.  I once hand fed chicken noodle soup to a dog.

Awww... making rice for the dog... Been there, done that <LOL>. He probably doesn't care for it plain, try putting broth over it (preferably chicken).... Often when you get a dog from a shelter he will have something wrong like this. Good News is that once he has settled in and you keep up on all the 'maintenance' stuff like shots, good food and water, worming, all the things to keep him healthy, he will not be apt to get sick. Good luck, he looks like a doll.

haaaaa...I just KNEW you're reading my blog saying 'What a freak...she cooks for her dogs...'  (Hmm...ok...most of the people reading probably say that.....LOL)

But....here's a quick fix....nuke a sweet potato, cut it up, and give it to him.  Dunno why, but sweet potato fixes their bowel movements....(constripation OR diarrhea...)

Good luck!!!  :)
