My voice was better today, but I felt WAY worse, so I kept the appointment. I have a sinus infection, as well as some wheezing action. I got some mega antibiotics and some steriods, which is good since I want to play professional baseball.
He wants to see my in three weeks, for some lung check stuff. I figured I'd cancel that one, since I don't usually wheeze, or have any other chest problems. He mentioned (during the "quit smoking moron" lecture...a big reason I don't go to the Dr. is the lectures.) that there is a new stop-smoking drug, and it's supposed to be awesome. I was mad at him, so I wasn't ABOUT to ask questions and keep him going.
First of all, you have to WANT to quit, to be successful, right? I don't want to right now. Most stressful season at work and all. Plus, I enjoy it. Plus, I don't want to gain back the 75 lbs that I lost a couple years back. I'm not addicted to nicotine as much as to the act of smoking. Keeps my hands busy and gives me something to do on my breaks at work. All the OTHER kids are doing it.
On the way home, I got to thinking. I guess I'll call him and see if the drug is covered under my insurance. It would be nice to have that cigarette money back in my pocket. He said that it is the best thing yet, and that folks he's given it to don't even care that they aren't smoking. Kevin even said that if it's true, and insurance covers it, he's in, too.
Shit, I better not go getting all healthy and stuff. That would TICK me off!

Well I didnt use any drugs to quit smoking, I just did because my chest hurtI wheezed and I stayed sick all the time. In the last year since, I no longer smoke all these things are gone I dont cough any more my throat no longer hurts. I didnt want to quit, but it was hurting me when I did smoke. I did gain all the weight back I lost but working on losing it. You have to want to quit like you said ...but I feel so much better 12/26/06 will be 1 yr. I have saved 1500.00 on just my packs alone and I have gained 3 weeks to the end of my life.LOL

I'm so happy for you that you're thinking of quitting!!! Ryan is always begging my mom to quit, but it never seems to have any effect.... :-/ I know she won't quit, and I know I'll be burying her soon from lung cancer like my aunt and grandparents... OK...wow...that went from happy to a downer fast.
I wouldn't worry about getting healthy as long as you stick with the beer and Pringles, you'll be just fine. ;-P

Well Rachel, I'll hang in there with you if you decide to quit! I quit on the day of the Great American Smokeout in November 1988. If there's a pill that wil make it easier - I'm all for it. http://www.quitsmoking.com/kopykit/reports/smokeout.htm Many blessings to you and yours, Penny http://journals.aol.com/firestormkids04/FromHeretoThere
Hope you are feeling a little better now that you are on the antibiotics. If you do call and try that new drug to quit...let me know how it works...I would be interested. Now that you are on steriods...bet you can hit one outta the park, try out for your baseball team now!!! LOL!
Take care of yourself and get better,
June
Quit smoking! I am so sad that my sister quit last year and it was too late. She has lung cancer. Try to quit any way you can. there must be some other stress relievers you can use. Take up knitting or crocheting to keep your hands busy, or soduko or whatever it is!
Hope you feel better soon! If you both try this quit smoking thing, be sure to earmark the $$ you are saving in a special fund. Otherwise, you'll never even know you saved any. And if it works as well as the doctor says, be sure to post the name of it so that others can inquire of their doctors. - Barbara
