My Friday memory, this week, is about bicycles. I can't say it's about "my bike", since I went through so many. My parents were cool about bikes. We were allowed to disassemble, reassemble, paint and apply stickers to our 2-wheeled modes of transportation.
I had one bike that had at least 3 layers of spray paint on it! The seats were changed out, the handle bars adjusted. We got new hand grips or fancy add-ons with our allowance. We rode up and down that gravel road like it was new territory.
We rode to town (about 2 miles) and got a soda at the fountain there. Real, old time cherry Cokes. Mmmmmm. We were on one such ride when our dog was hit by a car and killed. That was a very upsetting day. We ruled the world when we were on our bikes, though...ruled the damn world.
Yeah, I miss my bike(s).

Now that is a trip down memory lane. Blaine, Mike B and I went everywhere on our bikes too. And boy that soda fountain was about the coolest thing in town. I wished it still around for our kids to enjoy.
YES thats a blast from the past ,we went everywhere on our bikes ,in our younger days not alot of public transport in the country areas, some times two to a bike ,one on the seat the other peddaling ,believe me it can be done ...it was LOL Jan xx
Sounds like it is time for another bike.
Funny isn't it? I rode my bike with friends in wide arching loops down the side of many Farm roads and smaller highways.......I'd NEVER let my children do that! lol Guess you need a bike and ride with your kids. My hubby brought me home a second hand 5 speed. I ride it on cool evening with mine. ;) - Barbara
I'd give about $1,000 to have one of those days back. Yes, even with you and your brother arguing all the time. Just one day.
What I'd give to be that carefree again! Nothing on your mind but the wind in your hair!
We would ride to the next town (around 5 miles away) down gravel country roads No one thought anything about it being safe or not because back in the 50 s and 60 s you just didn't worry about it. Our parents knew where you were going and if you got home before supper it wasn't a big deal at all. Oh for those days again!
